Los Gatos handing over reins of Music in the Park to local non-profit

The town council has given the arts commission the go-ahead to negotiate an agreement with Los Gatos Music & Arts to organize and run MIP. Los Gatos Music & Arts is a relatively new nonprofit organization that took over the Jazz on the Plazz operations last year. “The recent formation of the nonprofit agency Los Gatos Music & Arts which operates the successful Jazz on the Plazz concert series presents an opportunity for the town to explore an alternative organizational structure for MIP which is not subject to the rigorous confines of the Brown Act” community services director Regina Falkner said. In a March 2 presentation to the town council Falkner pointed out that MIP’s success is dependent on close collaboration between arts commissioners. Since the commissioners are town representatives she said their interactions must be “open and transparent” or they may be in violation of the Brown Act.
