All About Jazz
Developed as part of its Disney Youth Programs the festival provided an exciting mix of education live concerts and just plain old fun to students of participating middle and high school vocal and instrumental ensembles from all over the country through workshops clinics and performances with top jazz artists. The primary focus of course was education with the opportunity to learn from world- famous jazz educators and artists. In addition the student jazz bands were also evaluated by renowned collegiate adjudicators who critiqued performances imparted knowledge and graded overall performances by the groups. Disney Jazz Celebration is supported in part by Conn-Selmer Inc.

When the teacher later left for the US Rafi enrolled at the Jakarta Drum School in South Jakarta where he began to play songs. The first song Rafi mastered was Slank’s "I Miss You but I Hate You" and Dewa’s "Separuh Nafas" (Half Breath). "At first I liked rock music. But then as I meet other musicians I evolved. My father is also a jazz lover and he had a collection of jazz music which I often listen to" he says. "There is no difference between rock and jazz because the final goal is to play the music" he adds. An oversize band may be required to pull off all of this album’s tiny flourishes but often Mr. Morrison and this very delicate album seemed suffocated a product of overinstrumentation and his own limitations.

Herzig said. ?More and more women are being involved and you don?t get weird looks anymore playing late at night at a bar.

Also performing on the festival’s first day with be Summer Storm featuring Norman Brown Wayman Tisdale and Eric Darius the Jon Faddis Quartet the Jack Sheldon rchestra the Pete Escovedo rchestra featuring Sheila E. Esperanza Spalding Cos of Good Music the New Birth Brass Band and the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts Jazz Ensemble.
