“Fairfield Union will perform several songs including one from Duke Ellington and one by Etta James. The performances won’t be competition instead the students can learn more about enjoying their jazz performances and making them more entertaining Falvo said. “Jazz is more than music on a page” he said. “Jazz music is like a blank canvas. The students have the opportunity to discover the music and make it their own. “The Lancaster High School band also has been practicing to help them prepare for the concert said the band’s director Bart Pickenpaugh. Pickenpaugh said Lancaster’s band will perform “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” along with a few other jazz classics.

comPublished on: February 26 2009It may be chilly and drab outside but inside Slavonian Hall March 7 it will be bright toasty warm and full of cheer for the sixth annual ld Town Jazz and Wine Fest. The name says it all: more than 10 local wineries will be there offering complimentary tastes and glasses of your favorite vino and lively jazz music will be played all evening by some longtime local favorites. The goal behind the festival in addition to making for a fun social outing is to raise funds for constructing a permanent outdoor performance stage in ld Town Park. The project spearheaded by the ld Town Business and Professional Association has been in the works for six years. nce built the stage will offer a snazzier and more suitable venue for the annual ld Town Blues Fest and opportunities for additional summertime events as well. Todd Steel co-vice president of the association which is presenting the jazz and wine fest along with T-Town Productions said “a fairly substantial amount of money” has been raised so far.

The pounding heave of Greg Felton’s piano the oblique perplexity of Jacob Wick’s trumpet and the sturdy pummel of Sean Carpio’s drums threaten to undo everything you thought you knew about jazz music.
