22 with the First Annual Charles Mingus High School Competition featuring competing bands from all over the Northeast. Mingus Dynasty a Mingus repertory band that performs all over the globe and regularly at venues downtown like the Jazz Standard will also appear. At a time when the popularity of jazz music has waned and been pushed into a peripheral niche scene some music critics have declared it dead. But Sue Mingus sees the genre moving forward through a younger generation. Upon listening to the taped submissions of the high school bands participating in the competition Sue and the other judges were surprised at the level of familiarity and sophistication the students?most born a decade after Mingus died?brought to the challenging music. ?I think it?s only a healthy sign that?s it?s [jazz] becoming much more available to kids students in schools? Mingus said. ?I don?t know who the Charlie Parkers Duke Ellingtons will be but there will be people expressing themselves through the music whatever color size age gender that they are.

Butman first took lessons in classical clarinet but they didn’t last very long as he “fell in love with jazz” while listening to “Kind of Blue” by Miles Davis. Jazz clubs did not really exist in the Soviet Union at the time but musicians and enthusiasts did gather regularly in small concert halls. Jazz music had caught on in Russia in the 1940s and the Cold War did not completely vanquish its popularity. “The music depended on the political situation and our country’s relationship with the U.

“Even if I weren’t getting credit I’d still be here” Carney said. Morgenstern ended each forum on a more serious note about the orchestra and Brookmeyer. He summed up the first forum with a quote from a 1975 interview in which Brookmeyer said “You cannot have jazz music without three things: honesty integrity and talent. ” “And that is something that holds true with Bob Brookmeyer” Morgenstern said as the audience applauded. Games Gavin is a no talent bum as a writer and should have never been allowed to own a pencil, deep in a nightmare is what Gavin was in when he decided to write this piece of crap, there are so many fabricated parts of this book that it is just not worth reading, One that comes to mind is the fairy tale story about my father having homosexual experiences. This is so fare from the truth it’s pathetic. in all of the stories written about Chet over the years there has never been such a claim made, and in fact anyone who really new Chet knows this is bullshit, fabricated by a real homosexual trying to get closer to my father’s greatness by inducting him into this lifestyle with this huge lie. My father was a beautiful gifted soul that deserves to be remembered the way he rely was. He was a true romantic married three times with four children. The truth is he was not a perfect soul but was not the fictitious character in this so called book either. James Gavin also had the nerve to put in print that my mother had my father murdered for insurance money, what insurance. My mother is also a beautiful person who loved my father to the end and deserves to be remembered as the love of his life. I am also writing a book, James Gavin and others mainly in the music business will be mentioned as the losers and thieves that they are.
