Mediocre pop masquerading as jazz
Jakarta Post Indonesia
"It’s not jazz! Such bands have no background in jazz. They are usually just pop bands who have listened to some jazz and use elements of it so their music sounds a bit different than the run-of-the-mill pop" Indra Lesmana said. Indra said although this pseudo jazz music is easily accepted by the public it is also twisting the definition of the genre. "The music they are making is light years away from jazz and although their spirit of musical exploration may at times come close to the origin they are actually giving birth to new rhythms that have nothing at all to do with jazz. What they are really exploring are the territories of soul and funk" Indra said. "That kind of music will reach a certain point then grow old and be replaced by another new trend because that kind of music is very industry driven and the industry is always looking for something new. " It is high time the music industry including festival and concert promoters and acts themselves woke up to the fact that it is always wiser to expand the knowledge of the audience — and in turn enrich the market — by exposing them to the entire spectrum a certain genre not just the side that will be sure-fire commercial hit.
Artist Biography – Vince Guaraldi
Billboard NY
album was a strange and rare find though the playing is deemed marvelous with the artist's ever-growing talent and shining potential ever so apparent. Along with some featured uptempo pieces and fast sambas the cut "The Masked Marvel" is a must-listen. With such tremendous grace and majestic prowess Vince Guaraldi will always live in the minds and hearts of jazz and music fans of all ages who dare to open their ears to such gracefully played music. He died on February 6 1976 leaving behind his work in 15 Peanuts television specials and one full-length feature film. Despite his popularity during the time of the '60s it is known that Guaraldi didn't release any records for a long while after 1969 giving listeners only three records to taste his life and his music. In 1998 Charlie Brown's Holiday Hits was released on the Fantasy label which gives the listener a great palette of Guaraldi's original compositions a cheerful jazz treat.

Chris Botti and the regon Symphony make beautiful music together
Examiner.com
After a brief intermission Chris Botti took the stage. Botti is backed by a very talented band each accomplished individually but chose to tour extensively with Botti. Starting out with fairly traditional light jazz the evening seemed like it was going to be an evening of Botti’s Greatest Hits. The regon Symphony was pretty light in their accompaniment with conductor Gregory Vajda doing more head bobbing along with the music than conducting. But Botti quickly transitioned from light jazz to pure jazz and traversed a musical journey as diverse and enjoyable as the evening’s opening set. Botti is extremely charismatic and talented but he uses the spotlight sparingly instead opting to share the stage with the other talented musicians he plays with. Botti’s extremely humble approach is refreshing and it’s reflected in his playing.
