After his first break in 1962 Rollins returned to the scene with ‘The Bridge’ one of his best-selling records. His second break took him to India to study yoga meditation and Eastern philosophies and the return saw the musician enamored with other genres of music like Hip-hop R&B even funk rhythms all of which he classified under the influence of jazz. “I think Jazz is the mother music and all these other music come under the heading of Jazz so (for example) Hip-hop music it’s really a form of jazz (and so is rock music). So jazz was sort of the mother of all of these modern forms of music” Rollins said. “That’s because (like jazz) you make (the music) up as you go along and it has got to be correct and you have no time to go back and change it. It has got to be right there in the moment.
