As the founder and leader of the New Grass Revival Bush pioneered and guided the evolution of modern hill country music. Together with the bluegrass… During a five-year stint with the Nash Ramblers he provided a diverse range of textures for the songs of Emmylou Harris. On his own Bush has continued to explore an eclectic musical spectrum. Bush was exposed to country music and bluegrass at an early age through his father’s record collection and later by Flatt & Scruggs’ television show. Buying his first mandolin at the age of 11 his musical interest was further piqued when he attended the Roanoke Bluegrass Festival in 1965. A child prodigy on the fiddle he placed first at the national fiddle contest in Weister ID three times in a row. Together with childhood friends Wayne Stewart and Alan Munde later of Country Gazette he formed a band and recorded his first album Poor Richard’s Almanac in 1969. But my anxiety disappeared as soon as I met singer Erika Kertész and guitarist Jay Myerson waiting patiently for me at a table half way between the front window and the piano where they will soon appear in concert. In retrospect I realize that the calm and candor they exuded when I first saw them is characteristic of their music as well. Kertész and Myerson do relaxed moody arrangements of jazz standards as well as jazz arrangements of pop music standards from the '70s '80s and '90s. It's a sound that's likely to appeal to a broad audience of music lovers – jazz aficionados pop music fans even classical music lovers who appreciate a fine voice – quite simply because Kertész's voice is so lovely rich and expressive. At 25 she's already got the stuff of a singer who could make her mark in the big time. Not that she's concerned about making it big. Her calm approach to life and music-making is more about enjoyment and fulfillment of musical dreams and desires than it is about success and recognition.

‘Queen of Blues’ Koko Taylor for Jazz fest
Jamaica Observer – Jan 11, 2008
Elmore’s decision it seems coincides with entertainment bible Rolling Stone’s appraisal of Taylor heralding her as “the great female blues singer of her generation who possesses deep soul and raw vocal power”. That aside Taylor has secured three nominations for the 2008 Blues Music Awards for her 2007 release Old School. Her return to music after a seven-year hiatus has earned her nods in the album Song and Traditional Blues Female Artiste of the Year categories. In addition an album cut written by Koko Gonna Buy Me A Mule has been nominated for Song of the Year. “I worked long and hard on Old School and I want my fans to enjoy it as much as I do” Taylor said. Over the course of her almost 50-year career Taylor has received just about every award the blues world has to offer and then some. “Blues is my life it is a feeling that comes from the heart not just something that comes out of my mouth” Taylor added “I put my heart and soul into everything I do.
