Salsa Lessons and Sin Miedo: Concerts and Music Events in Arlington…
Washington Post – Aug 29, 2007
It’s amazing the number of people who love to dance who learn the steps and all that. Prossaird’s route to Washington has been circuitous to say the least. He pursued “serious” music studies as a young man in Paris but gave them up when the Afro-Cuban rhythms of salsa got to him in his late teens. With a friend Prossaird headed to the Caribbean though more for recreational than musical purposes. “The reason for going to St. Barth was just the freedom of doing it” he says. “We checked it out and we stayed… “It has a huge dance community and a lot of people interested in salsa and competitive dancing so there are a lot of salseros a lot of people involved with instruction a lot of people wanting to learn how to dance and get better at it. Prossaird notes that while Sin Miedo is a salsa band “we also do Latin jazz. A lot of the cats in the band are old jazz players so there’s a big jazz influence but we do play very traditional salsa as well. There’s a fine line he explains. “The difference between Latin jazz and salsa is that with salsa there is going to be lyrics and a lot of vocals; Latin jazz is much the same but it is mostly instrumental. And the emphasis of salsa is for people to dance to it while Latin jazz is more of a listening experience though you can do both.

Music to Anderson’s ears: Downtown Sounds to return in 2008
Anderson Independent Mail – Anderson Independent Mail (subscription) – Aug 29, 2007
”That “awareness” was the goal all along. Downtown Sounds was meant to do for Anderson what Downtown Alive and Main Street Jazz has done for Greenville: bring people to the city. Through beach oldies ’80s and jazz music along with beer and wine sales and children’s entertainment the series became a weekly appointment for many in and around Anderson. “I went whenever I could and the whole family had a great time” said Mary Treadway of Anderson. “It’s something Anderson needs and something I can’t wait to see return next year. ”Count on that said Mr. Rucker and Debra Credeur downtown manager for the city of Anderson.
