ur youth is ignorant and only a few are willing to be part of this movement. To me this is more than just music as it was our school to learn respect when I was growing up. “However we must keep in mind that times have changed and so should our music. I can play with a jazz artist without losing my originality” said Manqineni. Manqineni is due to make her third appearance in Germany at the end of this month and she says the Western world appreciates her music more than South Africans do. This statement holds some water. In her long career Manqineni has only released one album a few years ago.

There will also be a performance by Kiyokazu Kanze the Grand Master of the Kanze School of Noh. Noh is Japan’s classical stage art which combines in stylistic and aesthetic way dance drama music and poetry. They will be joined by pianist Takashi Kako one of Japan’s leading composers whose compositions fuse elements of classic modern and jazz music; talented vocalist Yoka Wao a former member of the Takarazuka Revue where she specialized in playing male roles; and the brilliant violinist Iwao Furusawa known for his original bold arrangements. A rotating group of about a dozen plays south of Dupont Circle in Northwest each Monday Tuesday and Friday night this summer.
