The Latin Jazz concert will be presented by Bluewater and Big River Grilles. The group is led by Matias a self-taught Puerto Rican-born musician. Cuban Son music and hypnotizing Latin swing their music is full of percussion grooves that are “sure to keep the crowd movin’ all night long. ” The music will kick off at 7 p.

Coco Mbassi originally hails from Cameroon but has forged her musical career in Paris France. Mbassi sings many songs in her native tongue Duala. She arranges all of her own music: combining jazz minimalist and classical beats with African rhythm to support her dazzling voice. Her lyrics focus on beautiful everyday aspects of life such as friendship family life and love. She will play at Livu Square on July 6 and at the Congress Center on July 7. Also at the Congress Center on July 7 will be tis Taylor one of the greatest blues artists alive today. Taylor grew up listening to jazz music in the United States and has been interested in folk and blues his whole life. He has released a series of groundbreaking records and often incorporates tidbits of wisdom gleaned from his conversations with students. With two Grammies and 11 nominations under their belts it can safely be said that the Yellowjackets are at the forefront of today?s jazz scene. The Yellowjackets started out playing Rhythm and Blues in 1981 and have slowly moved toward the more jazzy music they are renowned for today. They will play at the Congress Center on July 4.

Not only does this mark the first time a festival has launched its own label but the riches of its tape archives-more than 1600 tapes with more than 2000 hours of concerts in the vault-makes this ambitious endeavor a jazz bonanza. The Monterey Jazz Festival the pioneering West Coast-styled jazz party inarguably holds the world record for the longest-running jazz affair having been born in 1958 on the Monterey Fairgrounds some 100 miles south of San Francisco. This year MJF turns 50 with its annual three-day gala (September 21-23) taking on special significance with a wealth of performances offered on nine stages spread throughout the festival’s 20-acre grounds. Monterey Jazz Festival Records is a stand-alone label in partnership with the Monterey Jazz Festival and Concord Music Group.
