Street music returns to jazz fest

However street music will only be heard in daylight hours as a compromise to counter concerns about drunkenness. The announcement came as the festival launched with the help of festival regular First Minister Rhodri Morgan. Jools Holland Mica Paris and Curtis Stigers are confirmed for the festival which takes place between 9-12 August. The 24th festival will feature 32 concerts more than 60 stroller events along with live music and street entertainment in the town centre.

There’s so much there: the idea of improvisation; the idea of what a song is; the idea of (in some cases) an American style and the disappearance or persistence thereof; repertory versus imagination; received wisdom versus innovation; concision versus the big statement. All this emerged during the first set by the pianist Bill Charlap’s trio at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola on Tuesday. Entertainment will include hip-hop gospel and jazz music as well as dancing. There also will be a minimuseum films book signings storytelling and poetry. Community awards and scholarships will be presented. As part of a new feature attendees are asked to donate school supplies for local children.
