"All children should have an equal opportunity to achieve their potential in spite of situations beyond their control whether it is physical financial or emotional" says the Angel Fund’s mission statement. Kristen’s parents also say however that they consider the fund to be a hand-up not just a handout and that recipients are expected to contribute toward any fundraising by washing cars shovelling driveways cutting lawns and such. Her parents said they were delighted when Les Dobbin suggested raising money for the Angel Fund through Jazz at the Palais. "Kristen loved music" they said. "So this was very appropriate. "Then come May 5 at a concert at the George Weston Recital Hall Hazlett and Dobbin will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Etobicoke Youth Band a group Hazlett founded a year after joining the Toronto District School Board as an itinerant music teacher. It began with 23 students in a lunchroom at Thistletown Middle School – formed to give music students the opportunity to play an enriched repertoire of music from classic band to marches and pop – and now has more than 130 members aged 12 to 18 from various middle and high schools in Toronto.

“I’m concerned with preserving my legacy and at my age I’m still working as hard as ever but it was more difficult to find the funding necessary to guarantee the future of everything we’re doing” said the 81-year-old Wein in a telephone interview Thursday. Wein said he had sold his company Festival Productions Inc. to The Festival Network LLC a newly formed New York-based entertainment production company. He would not disclose the sum but said it was “in the millions… “I’m concerned with preserving my legacy and at my age I’m still working as hard as ever but it was more difficult to find the funding necessary to guarantee the future of everything we’re doing” said the 81-year-old Wein in a telephone interview Thursday. He would not disclose the sum but said it was “in the millions. ” Wein said he had become concerned about the future of his privately owned company and its festivals as he grew older. Joyce Wein his wife of 46 years died in 2005. He said he had been approached several times during the past decade about selling his company.

Williams made his first public comments of the offseason to the Journal-News of Westchester (N. ) for Thursday’s editions taking a break as he pursued one of his other great passions — jazz music — as a special guest performer at a suburban New York club. “I have come to a place in my career where there are other things in my life that have become just as important as baseball” Williams told the Journal-News. “If this is the end there are no regrets. I gave it my best shot. ne of the things I’ve always wanted was to gain the respect from my teammates and I think I’ve done that.

The Polar Music Prize was founded in 1989 by the late Stig Anderson the publisher lyricist and manager of iconic Swedish pop group ABBA. The prize has been awarded since 1992 when it went to ex-Beatle Paul McCartney. Among other winners are Brazilian musician Gilberto Gil and German baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau American jazz musician Dizzy Gillespie Russian cellist Mstislav Rostropovitch British pop musician Elton John French classical conductor and composer Pierre Boulez jazz pianist Keith Jarrett US musician B.
