Seattle jazz drummer Clarence Acox jazz band director at Garfield High School performed with Standifer since the beginning and continues to play as part of the Floyd Standifer Group each Wednesday at the New rleans. “It was pure joy performing with him because he was a great musician and the music we were playing was at a very high level but he never played above people’s heads” Acox said. “He presented the music in such a way that it was very palatable to the general public but it was never compromised and it was always jazz. Canadian crime author Giles Blunt from Toronto is singing Mack The Knife at a book fair with Scottish crime fiction queen Val McDermid in front of a raucous audience of 1000. Recalling the story as if their applause was still ringing in his ears Blunt’s excitement betrayed his love for making music. Looking more like a Bee Gee than bookish Blunt admits he is more passionate about making music than writing novels. That is despite having created the best-selling Cardinal and Delorme series winning major crime fiction awards and writing for US television’s Law and rder. For this interview Blunt had to pry himself away from rehearsing Beatles music on his guitar for a gig with lads who play Beatles music. Blunt explained: "I could spend hours a day playing guitar… " Laughing he adds: "What will happen is Cardinal will solve a crime. "For Blunt Tuesdays are trivia nights at his local pub. However best of all on Thursday nights he plays jazz with the lads in the Toronto Downtown Jazz Club. Smiling he says "It can be surprisingly good or really terrifyingly awful. " Share this article.
